Yaşar Sarıkaya was born in 1957 in Erzincan. He grew up immersed in the local musical traditions, learning directly from his father, Abdullah Sarıkaya. After completing his military service, like many from his region, he moved to Istanbul to find his path. However, his heart remained in the valleys and mountains of Erzincan.

In 1985, he passed the exams for Istanbul Radio, which launched his official career as a folk artist. Over the next 30 years, he produced ten albums and dozens of compositions, always centered on the "türkü" (folk songs) of his people. "Şirin Erzincan": An Anthem of Longing

His most famous work, is more than just a song—it's a poetic tribute to his hometown. The lyrics express a bittersweet longing (gurbet), referencing landmarks like the Munzur Mountains and the spiritual figure Terzi Baba.

Yaşar Sarıkaya is a prominent Turkish folk musician and television host dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of his homeland. While there isn't a single "folktale" officially titled after him, his life and his signature song, (Sweet Erzincan), tell a story of deep-rooted devotion to his roots. The Story of a Folk Voice
