Lum and her friends receive a videotape from the "Three Rowdy Punksters from Planet Middle School"— Sugar , Ginger , and Pepper . They want to surpass the legendary "bad girl" reputations of Lum , Benten , and Oyuki by challenging them to a duel.

The showdown takes place on Earth, where the punksters use a game of "keep away" and a robot named Salt-1 that spews out thousands of fake chains to confuse Benten .

Benten is ambushed in a mushroom forest by a girl who gases her and steals her signature chain.
