These two chapters were specifically revealed to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to shield him from and cure the effects of black magic. In one well-known account, the Prophet (ﷺ) was afflicted by magic involving knots; as he recited each verse of these two surahs, the knots were miraculously untied until he was completely healed. After their revelation, he relied on them primarily for protection and ceased using other previous methods.
