Lord, help me to stand firm against the distractions and comparisons that steal my joy. Grant me the wisdom to focus on the work You've placed in my hands today. Amen. (Be Still).
We often judge our spiritual or personal success by looking at the person in the next pew or the next cubicle. Paul warns that this is a dangerous game. When we compare, we either end up with (thinking we're "better" than others) or crushing inadequacy (feeling we'll never measure up) ( Be Still ). 2. The Call to "Test Your Own Work"
There is a beautiful tension here. Just a few verses earlier, Paul says to "bear one another’s burdens." But in verse 5, he says "each one should carry their own load." Scholars note that while "burdens" refers to overwhelming, heavy weights we need help with, the "load" in verse 5 refers to a —the personal responsibility each of us must carry ( Blue Letter Bible ).
