As the clock struck four, the door swung open. A man in a worn denim jacket stepped inside, shaking a wet umbrella. He scanned the room, his eyes finally landing on Elara. The years had added lines around his eyes, but that smile—crooked and tentative—was exactly the same. He walked toward her, and for a moment, the three-year silence between them felt like nothing more than a long breath held too late. Elara finally let out that breath
