The Film

Directed, produced, and filmed by Academy Award–nominated and Emmy–winning filmmaker Matthew Heineman, City of Ghosts is a singularly powerful cinematic experience that is sure to shake audiences to their core as it elevates the canon of one of the most talented documentary filmmakers working today. Captivating in its immediacy, City of Ghosts follows the journey of “Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently” – a handful of anonymous activists who banded together after their homeland was taken over by ISIS in 2014. With astonishing, deeply personal access, this is the story of a brave group of citizen journalists as they face the realities of life undercover, on the run, and in exile, risking their lives to stand up against one of the greatest evils in the world today.

Nicolae Guta - Strainatatea [ UHD 2027 ]

Nicolae Guță began his career in the late 1980s as a lăutar (traditional Romani musician), performing lăutărească music before pivoting to the burgeoning manele genre in the late 1990s. He was instrumental in modernising the genre by incorporating Western pop, hip-hop, and synthesised sounds, eventually being dubbed a purveyor of "modern Gypsy jazz" by international critics.

In the landscape of post-communist Romanian music, few figures loom as large or as polarising as Nicolae Guță. While his career spans decades and multiple genres, his 2011 track (The Foreign Land) stands as a definitive anthem of the Romanian diaspora experience. The song transcends its classification as manele to become a poignant socio-cultural document, articulating the profound loneliness, economic sacrifice, and identity crises faced by millions of Romanians living abroad. 1. The Artist: Nicolae Guță and the Evolution of Manele

Guță’s music often serves as a mirror for Romanian society, capturing the "primitive accumulation of desire" that emerged after the fall of communism. His work, including "Străinătatea," speaks directly to the "strawberry pickers" and other migrant workers who were often ignored or despised by the state and social elites. 2. The Anthem of the "Străinătate"
