Harry begins having disturbing visions of Voldemort, eventually seeing his godfather, Sirius Black, being tortured at the . Harry and members of the D.A. fly to London to save him, only to realize it was a trap set by Voldemort to lure Harry into retrieving a prophecy.

The conflict culminates in a spectacular duel between in the Ministry atrium. Voldemort is eventually forced to flee, but not before he is seen by the Minister of Magic, finally forcing the wizarding world to acknowledge his return. The film concludes with Harry learning the content of the prophecy: that he and Voldemort are destined to fight until "neither can live while the other survives."

The film begins with Harry being attacked by Dementors in Little Whinging. After using magic to save his cousin Dudley, he is nearly expelled from Hogwarts but is rescued by members of the , a secret society founded by Albus Dumbledore to fight Voldemort.
