During a botched attempt to steal the beans, Puss crosses blades with a mysterious, masked rival. The thief is revealed to be , a master pickpocket whose name comes from her literal lack of claws. Puss escapes with the help of Kitty, who has had a change of heart. As a massive, skyscraper-sized goose descends upon San Ricardo, Puss must convince Humpty to do the right thing.
In prison, Puss meets the real Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk ), who warns him that the "Great Terror" is actually the Golden Goose’s mother—and she is coming to reclaim her baby. Redemption
Back on solid ground, Puss is ambushed. He discovers the heartbreaking truth: the entire quest was a setup. Humpty has been working with Jack and Jill all along to get revenge on Puss for "abandoning" him years ago. Puss is arrested by the San Ricardo guards and thrown into the dungeon he once guarded.
In a final showdown on a collapsing bridge, Humpty realizes that the Golden Goose's safety is more important than his grudge. To save Puss and the town, Humpty sacrifices himself, falling from the bridge. When Puss checks the wreckage, he finds that Humpty wasn't just "rotten"—underneath his shell, he was a solid gold egg.
