“Wait! I forgot the music!” Yuki ran to the battery-powered radio and cranked the volume. A bubbly pop song blasted across the rooftop, drowning out the sound of the monsters at the door.

The girls froze. The sound of scratching against metal—fingernails on steel—pierced the air. Taromaru barked, his fur standing on end.
