While sitting in the balcony of his church in Mobile, Alabama, Don Moen looked out over the congregation. He noticed many people standing silently, not singing along to the complex contemporary songs of the time. His heart went out to them, and he felt a deep burden to provide a "simple song of thanks" that anyone could sing, regardless of their musical ability or spiritual state.
The title track was recorded on October 3, 2003 , at Regent University in Virginia Beach. It featured a "packed house of energetic worshipers," the Kingdom Choir of Tide Water, and the Brentwood Baptist Church Worship Choir. A Global Legacy of Simple Faith
During the same period, Moen wrote "Jesus, You Are My Healer" for a friend diagnosed with cancer, who remarkably attended the live recording of the Thank You Lord album while his health was improving.
Moen co-wrote the song, with fellow worship leader Paul Baloche contributing the idea for the "pre-chorus".
The story behind is rooted in his desire to give people a simple, accessible way to express their gratitude to God during worship. The Inspiration in the Balcony
