Fans often cite this episode as the moment Light truly becomes a criminal, as he kills innocent people (the FBI agents) purely to protect himself.

Raye is manipulated into writing the names of his superior and all other FBI agents investigating Kira in Japan. Light had pre-written the circumstances of the superior's death so that they would send the list of agents to Raye's device before dying.

One week after their initial encounter, Light confronts Raye Penber at an underground shopping center on December 27. To prove he is Kira, Light demonstrates his power by "judging" a nearby criminal right before Raye’s eyes.

Under the threat that Kira will kill Raye's fiancée if he doesn't comply, Raye is forced to board a train. Light, remaining hidden, provides Raye with an envelope containing pages from the Death Note.
