There was no sender in his inbox, no history of the site he’d visited, and no metadata attached to the archive—just five digits and a compressed weight that felt far heavier than the 42 megabytes it claimed to be.

His heart thudded against his ribs as he opened the image. It was a high-resolution drone shot of a house in the suburbs. The roof was missing a few shingles near the chimney. A blue sedan was parked in the driveway with a cracked taillight. It was his house. But in the driveway, there was something that wasn't there when he got home: a tall, thin figure draped in a yellow raincoat, standing perfectly still, looking directly up at the camera.
