Umbra is a sentient, soul-trapping sword created by a witch at the request of the Daedric Prince . Unlike standard Daedric artifacts, Umbra developed its own consciousness and sought independence from Vile’s influence. Chronologically, the sword was thought to be lost or reintegrated into Vile's realm following the events of the Elder Scrolls novels, but it reappears in Skyrim through the "Vile Whispers" quest.
